Therapy in Bonita, CA | Counselor Johanna Lee
In Bonita, early motherhood can feel quieter on the outside than it does on the inside. You may be caring for your baby between family visits, school pickups, and daily routines in peaceful neighborhoods near the trails or close to extended relatives. Even in calm surroundings, postpartum can bring anxiety, overstimulation, and a deep identity shift that no one prepared you for. I offer postpartum therapy for mamas in Bonita who look composed but feel emotionally shaken and unsure of themselves in this new chapter.
I have worked with women across South Bay communities, including Bonita and nearby areas where close-knit family systems and bicultural identity shape daily life. The lifestyle here often includes multigenerational households, strong traditions, and unspoken expectations about what a “good mom” should be. While the community feels supportive, many women carry pressure behind the scenes to handle everything with grace and gratitude.
Mamas in Bonita choose postpartum therapy because they want a steady, private space to process anxiety, guilt, and identity changes without judgment. You deserve support that honors your family, your culture, and your lived experience while helping you feel grounded and confident in yourself again.
How it works
We start with a gentle intake session where you can share your experiences and goals. This is where we begin to understand what you’ve been holding and what you truly need, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Intake Session
Through ongoing therapy sessions, we’ll dig into your individual needs. I’ll offer tools rooted in mindfulness, self-compassion, and cultural validation,so healing feels like it fits
your life, not someone else’s version of self-care.
Follow Up Sessions
We revisit how far you’ve come, name what’s changed, and create a rhythm of support for what’s next,so you leave feeling steady, not dropped.
(# of sessions will vary based on individual needs)

Therapy for Postpartum
Postpartum therapy in Bonita is for mamas who appear composed in peaceful neighborhoods but feel internally shaken by early motherhood. You may be caring for your baby between family visits, school drop-offs, and expectations that you will “handle it” with grace. Even in a quiet community near trails and family homes, anxiety and identity shifts can feel overwhelming.
Women in Bonita often begin therapy feeling guilty for struggling in a life that looks stable from the outside. Over time, many feel more grounded, less reactive, and more secure in their parenting decisions. Emotional regulation improves, and self-trust slowly rebuilds.
Compassion-Focused Therapy for Anxiety
Compassion-focused therapy for anxiety in Bonita supports you if your outside world looks calm but your inner world feels tense. Living in a peaceful neighborhood near trails or close to family homes does not mean your thoughts slow down. You may find yourself overthinking parenting decisions, family conversations, or whether you are doing “enough.”
Many mamas in Bonita carry quiet pressure to keep everything harmonious. Over time in therapy, women often feel less consumed by self-doubt and more confident in their choices. Instead of criticizing yourself for feeling anxious, you begin responding with more understanding and emotional balance.
Therapy for Latinas
Culturally affirming therapy for Latinas & first-gen moms in Bonita is for you if you feel the quiet tension between tradition and change. Living in a close-knit South Bay community often means strong family presence and deep cultural ties. You might feel proud of where you come from and still be unsure how to parent differently without feeling guilty.
Many mamas in Bonita carry a bicultural identity daily, switching language, expectations, and roles depending on the room. In therapy, women often begin to feel more integrated, rather than split between two worlds. Self-doubt decreases as clarity about values increases.
Postpartum & Early Motherhood Therapy
Postpartum & early motherhood therapy in Bonita supports you if you feel like you are supposed to enjoy this season but quietly feel stretched thin. Maybe you are balancing toddler energy, family gatherings, and expectations to show up calm and grateful in peaceful South Bay neighborhoods. On the outside, life looks stable. Inside, you may feel anxious, disconnected, or emotionally reactive.
Many mamas in Bonita struggle with the ongoing identity shift that early motherhood brings. In therapy, women often begin to feel more grounded and less consumed by self-doubt. The pressure to be perfect softens. You start making decisions from clarity instead of guilt.
Testimonials
I was working with a first-gen Latina client who shared that she really appreciates that I give her education and examples for different mental health concepts and this helps her think about it in her own terms throughout the week (e.g. like having a full plate and taking just a moment to set it down when we journal so that it doesn’t feel as heavy all the time).
I helped a mom advocate for herself after experiencing workplace harassment throughout her pregnancy. She felt like she was complaining but after processing a couple sessions, she realized that this was one way she could protect herself (even if in the past she wasn’t able to).
I hosted a Baby & Me Parent Community Event focused on 1) donations/swap station for baby & mom items 2) sensory play stations 3) selena dance along 4) new parent mental health 101 & 5) guest speaker on financial education. I had a few moms come up to me during the event saying how helpful it was to get tangible resources and also information to help them in their current season.

Frequently asked questions
What payment methods do you accept?
I accept FSA/HSA, debit, or credit card for payment. I do not currently accept insurance and many clients appreciate the privacy, flexibility, and control that comes with paying directly for care (versus utilizing insurance).
Can I bring my baby to the session?
Yes—babies are absolutely welcome. I know it’s not always possible to find childcare, and you shouldn’t have to put your healing on hold because of that. Whether you’re nursing, rocking, or soothing during our time together, this space is made with mamá life in mind. Come as you are—messy bun, spit-up, baby in arms and all. (ps snacks are also welcome and often encouraged lol)
How long is each session, and how often will we meet?
Sessions are 55 minutes. Most clients start with weekly sessions, but we’ll collaborate to find a rhythm that fits your needs, schedule, and goals.
Where are you licensed to provide therapy?
I’m licensed in California, so therapy sessions are available to clients physically located in California at the time of each session. If you're outside California, you can still join my escuelita &/or access non-clinical resources - View here
